What Should I Post? A Simple Content Pillar System for Small Business Owners

When you have a simple system, “What should I post?” gets a lot easier. A content pillar system helps you rotate through a few core themes instead of starting from scratch every time.

What are content pillars?

Content pillars are 3–5 main themes you talk about over and over because they matter most to your audience and your business. They keep your content focused, recognizable, and easier to plan.

Think of them as your “buckets” of content. Each post you create should fit into one of those buckets.

A simple 4‑pillar system

You can start with just four pillars:

  • Educate: Teach something related to your product or service (tips, how‑tos, FAQs).

  • Showcase: Highlight your offers, products, services, or results (before/after, case studies).

  • Social proof: Share reviews, testimonials, screenshots, or client stories.

  • Personal/brand: Show the human side of your business (your story, behind‑the‑scenes, values).

How to use this each week

Pick 3–4 days you want to post. For each day, choose a pillar instead of starting with a blank page. For example:

  • Monday: Educate

  • Wednesday: Showcase

  • Friday: Social proof

  • Optional extra: Personal/brand

Within each pillar, repeat what works with new angles, photos, and examples. Your audience needs to hear the same key messages many times, not brand‑new topics every week.
